Finding a Home for Morgan

This is going to be a good year for Morgan. After being bounced around from one situation to another, this bichon/poodle mix has finally settled into a quiet life in Sagamore Hills with his new mom Eunice. Morgan was adopted from Marilyn’s Voice rescue (www.MarilynsVoice.org) only a month ago and already feels at home. Eunice says, “Morgan came to live with me at the height of the holidays when my home was chaotic but he adjusted nicely and it’s clear that he knows this is his forever home.”

Morgan’s life didn’t start out this way. He was found in a Columbus kill shelter dirty and with a bum leg that once was broken and fused back together causing him to limp. Through a rescue transport, Morgan came to Marilyn’s Voice and moved in with foster mom Cheryl. Cheryl affectionately nick named him Captain Morgan due to his “peg leg,’ which doesn’t seem to bother him.  Cheryl says, “given what he’s gone through, I was surprised at what a great personality he had and how grateful he was for being saved.”

After one month, Morgan received an adoption application. Marilyn’s Voice requires potential adopters to complete an application and provide veterinarian references or receive a home visit if a vet reference isn’t applicable. Morgan’s adopter was approved in the mist of her battle with cancer, which she was coping with well at the time of the adoption. Unfortunately, Morgan’s adopter passed away only two months later causing him to be uprooted and in another unstable situation. As an aside, Morgan gave his dying mom much comfort in her final days since the hospital allowed Morgan to visit.

Marilyn’s Voice asks adopters return dogs if necessary so Morgan was re-united with his foster mom. “At first he was very confused but remembered me and bonded quickly,” says Cheryl. She was tempted to keep Morgan since he’d gone through so many changes but Morgan had to compete with Cheryl’s three others dogs for attention. Morgan needed a home where he was the one and only dog.

Through word of mouth, Eunice found out about Morgan. Her Bichon recently died and she was searching for a new dog. After putting in an application she was quickly approved. Eunice says, “Everyday, I see more of his personality. He requires patience but he very much wants to please.” Morgan has already mastered the stairs in his new home, even with a bum leg!

Marilyn’s Voice is a nonprofit organization focusing largely on rescuing and rehabilitating puppy mill dogs. In 2010, they found homes for 144 dogs! Foster volunteers bring the dogs into their homes and introduce them to the sweet life of living with nice people in a safe environment. Eunice says, “Marilyn’s Voice does a nice job of vetting the dogs and understanding what kind of home would be best for the dog.”
